SELF-HOSTED COMPARISON

Wholly Crypto vs PayRam

With Wholly Crypto, a customer pays into a receiving wallet you already control. In the PayRam setup our operator tested, another contract transaction was needed to move the funds into their own destination wallet.

Wholly Crypto vs PayRam
What mattersWholly CryptoPayRam
HostingYour Linux VPS. No Docker required.Self-hosted on your own server. [1]
Payment methods30 networks, Bitcoin Lightning through LND/NWC and verified tokens. Add supported custom EVM and Solana tokens.Bitcoin, Ethereum, TRON, Base and Polygon are listed; Solana is marked as coming soon on the features page. [1]
Software feeDefault 1% of the original invoice fiat value, charged from separate prepaid credit.2% service fee in the operator-reported test, plus settlement network costs. [6]
Receiving fundsThe receiving wallet is already yours, with its keys under your control. No contract payout is needed to receive the funds. Sending them to another wallet is optional and costs network fees.In the tested setup, funds needed a contract settlement to reach the merchant’s own destination wallet. The merchant paid the extra chain fees. [6]
Setup & operationLicensed binary software. External HTTPS/WSS nodes, projects, stores and wallet tools in one console.EVM SmartSweep uses a contract and merchant-funded gas for deployment, approval and execution. [5]

All options can involve network fees. Self-hosting also needs a server, secure backups and maintenance. Asset counts are not directly comparable: a token is not a separate network.

Receiving a payment is not the final settlement

PayRam documents deposit addresses first, then SmartSweep into a cold wallet. On EVM networks, deployment, approval and sweep execution need gas from the merchant’s Gas Station wallet. Self-custody does not remove that extra transfer. [5]

Contract setup is not necessarily repeated for every payment; sweeps can consolidate several deposits. Costs depend on the chain, gas prices and batching. Wholly Crypto’s optional sends and sweeps also incur network fees.

Bitcoin, with a Lightning option.

Wholly Crypto accepts Lightning through your external LND node or a compatible Nostr Wallet Connect wallet. Enable it per store alongside on-chain Bitcoin. Customers scan a Lightning invoice; settlement does not wait for block confirmations.

Choose your custody model: your own node, managed self-custody or a custodial provider. NWC alone does not tell you who holds the keys. Receiving capacity and separate channel backups matter; sending and refunds stay in the connected wallet. Read the Lightning guide →

Receive crypto. Choose what to keep.

Wholly Crypto can send supported coins and tokens to your Kraken, Binance or Coinbase account, manually or through sweep rules. Choose a direct spot market to convert a credited deposit to fiat or another crypto.

This is optional exchange conversion, not bank settlement. Exchange custody, verification, regional limits, trading fees and network fees apply. Your customer payment still arrives in your wallet first. Exchange features →

Before you choose

The advertised “from 1%” does not describe the 2% rate our operator encountered. PayRam’s FAQ gives a 1–5% settlement range. Check your actual fee and the gas needed to reach your final wallet, not just the headline price. Extra on-chain steps can be costly for small payments. Wholly Crypto needs prepaid credit for automation. If it runs out, customer payments and checkout creation continue, but IPN, webhooks, Sweep, new exchange conversions, new projects/stores and installing updates pause. How credits work →
